Toogoodoo 365
...almost daily paintings...
We live on the Toogoodoo Creek and the scenery is beautiful and changes daily. It's a deep tidal creek sided by the marsh, bluffs, huge oak trees and full of birds, dolphins and wildlife.
This series will be
365 paintings of the Toogoodoo Creek area.
I began this project on March 24, 2015
and will be 365 paintings done either en plein air on that calendar day
or studio paintings finished into a special piece of artwork from photos but they all clearly
represent what the Toogoodoo Creek and area looked like on that day of the year.
The sequence below is not always the most recent one. They are in date order but maybe not the same year.
The newest paintings are featured on the Welcome page.
A little creek history...
I'm thrilled to be able to share these scenes with you. Our beautiful world is a gift to us all.
The Toogoodoo Creek
Many of these paintings are 5 x 7 though some are larger and while some are quick studies for a larger piece they are definitely finished paintings worthy of a frame! Because of the number of paintings (to be 365 of them!), some are available through this website with a PayPal button or by contacting me and the rest are available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery.
The framed masterpieces start at $195 for a 5 x 7.
There is also a small collection of unframed masterpieces available for a special price of $75.

January 2, Coldest Day Of The Year!
6 x 6 oil on panel, unframed, plein air, palette knife painting Today was the coldest day of our new year. Ok, it's only Jan 2 but actually its the coldest day of our winter! It has been so warm lately. The weather and temperatures do wonderful things to our skies. This painting is all about the sky. The clouds were light and wispy and bits of light color. The sky looks cold but the trees... are still showing the warm greens of the warm season we have had! 6 x 6 Oil on panel, unframed $75 |
January 3, Lowcountry Snow Day
Today, we had a snowfall that was historic and possibly record breaking. Anywhere from 4-7" snow in the area! At low tide, in the marsh, the mud was all snow covered and you could see the white fields beyond the shoreline trees. It was a grayish, whitish color all day. 5 x 7 Oil on canvas panel, Unframed $75 |
January 4, Melting Snow
We had an almost record snow fall here yesterday leaving us with 4-5 inches of beautiful blanket of snow. The beaches and marshes look so different with snow! I had hoped it would melt today but so far, we are not above freezing yet. The azaleas and camilleas are evergreen with some blooms on the camillia still. 5 x 7 Oil on linen panel, Unframed $75 |
January 5, Lowcountry, Live Oaks and Snow
Today, the snow is just starting to melt where the sun is shining. But there is a lot of ice under that blanket! The live oak trees are huge along the creek bank and my home. The branches that stretch across the yard still are draped with snow. 5 x 7 Oil on linen panel, Unframed, $75 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |
January 6, Grand Oaks, Grand Snow
It only snowed for 1 day but it has not been above freezing yet so the snow is lingering and as treacherous it is to be out driving, it is beautiful as it hangs on the limbs of the grand live oak trees. 5 x 7 oil on linen panel, Unframed $75 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call or Email the gallery |
January 7, Snow On The Creek Bank
There is a little side creek, off another side creek which is Swinton creeek, that is tidal as well. There is a nice view from Parishville Rd just before you get to the corner at Toogoodoo Rd. The recent snow fall has lingered on the bank here as the trees along the bank are shading it from the sun. 8 x 10 Oil on canvas, Unframed $325 |
January 8, Three Docks
en plein air , palette knife Another "plein air" but again from the comfort and warmth of my family room! It's warmer than earlier in the week, but this souther girl likes it warmer to be outside! It's about 4 PM and the January sky is beautiful even with all the gray clouds. The clouds shimmer with color, when you really look! And bits of blue sky peek through. So, it's all about the sky here but the tree line is along the bottom and the 3 docks down the creek break up the dark green line of trees. 5x 7, Oil on canvas panel, Unframed $75 |

January 12, Sunrise Fog in January
I took this photo at 7:30 AM. It was a cold day and the warm waters created a eerie morgning fog/mist and the sunrise was peeking through the winter clouds layers. Just beautiful and peaceful. 5 x 7, Oil on canvas panel, Unframed $75 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |

January 16, Winter Sky
This is a plein air painting done about 5 PM, partly palette knife and partly brush work. The sky has that winter look to it and the marsh grass tops are a golden brown color now. Even though it has been cooler, it's a warm day today. 4 x 6, oil on canvas panel, Unframed $75 |

January 18, 2018, Morning High Tide at Swinton Creek
It is about 10AM as I crossed the bridge today at Swinton Creek. I love this view! It is different every single time I go over the bridge. The winter colors are in the marsh and trees for sure and the high tide shimmers in the marsh. 5 x 7 Oil on linen panel, unframed |

January 21, Winter Layers
This is the view across the creek from my house (again). It is cold, cold, cold out there. I painted this one with a palette knife and it is on prepared masonite. The clouds looked like it was all nice colorful layers. Just like the clothes we have to wear to go today, Layers! 5 x 7, oil on prepared masonite panel, Unframed $75 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |
January 23, Cold Winter Day
The winter sky is just as interesting as the summer sky. Late July brings brilliant late clouds and skies as does January though very diffyerent. Lots of thin layers with a dull blue gray sky and clouds in between. 4 x 6 oil on canvas panel, Framed $195 |
January 24, Winter Glow
The winter marsh grass is brown and gold and when the sun sets across from the marsh, it just glows! 6 x 6 oil on linen panel, Unframed Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |

January 27, Hazy Morning
I took a photo of the creek to my left and the distant trees and docks were in green-blue haze while the foreground trees and marsh were brilliant with the early morning sun. This is a true little gem! I started this one on this smooth surface and I normally paint with a palette knife on smooth surfaces but decided to do it in a brush only. Wow! It started out awful but as I got the feel (which was different for me!) I totally loved it at the end. It also took me 2 days (ok, not FULL days but yes 2) to finish this one. 5 x 7, oil on prepared panel, Framed $195 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |
January 29, Winter Morning
It is about 9 AM on a cold January winter as I cross the the little bridge over Swinton Creek, which is a run off of the Toogoodoo. This area has become one of my favorite scenes to paint as it looks different all the time! 8 x 10 oil on canvas, Framed $400 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |

January 31, Super Blue Blood Moon Day
Super Blue Blood Moon Day. Today is a lunar phenomenon. I have heard the explanations for it all day but am not able to explain it. It was beautiful clear and cool day and the marsh was glowing golden by late afternoon. Later that night, the moon rose and was HUGE over the water! 6 x 6 linen on wood panel, Framed $195 Contact the Artist |
February 22, February Sunrise 2
On this morning, the sky was just brilliant with color! The dark gray purplish cloud was radiating with color behind it leaving a beautiful reflection on the marsh mud and creek. 8 x 10 oil on canvas, Framed $395 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |
March 18, Roxbury Park in Bloom
It was a sunny beautiful day with Spring only a few days away but Roxbury Park was in full bloom today. The park is at the end of the Toogoodoo Creek. You can get there by boat on the creek but better be on your way before the tide leaves you in the mud! 8 x 10 Framed $395 Available at Charleston Artist Guild Gallery Call the gallery (843-722-2454) or email |
March 24, Spring Greens
I love this spot of Swinton Creek just off the Toogoodoo. It offers so much inspiration! It is the time of where the spring greens start coming in and it is beautiful mixed with the leftover winter colors. 8 x 10 oil on canvas. Framed $395 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |
March 27, "View of Field Past The Trees"
A view across the creek from upper level of home. Today at 11:30 am, there was a heavy gray overcast day with the threat of rain. The marsh is starting to green up more. The tide is about at the half way point. 5 x 7 oil on paper mounted on panel Contact the artist for availability |
March 28, 4:30 PM, "Late Afternoon"
This view is across from my house as it is cool again today. The late afternoon light is starting to fall on the trees that are starting to green up for the spring. The tide is about mid to high and coming in. 5 x 7 oil on canvas mounted on panel Contact the artist on availability |
March 29, 4:30 PM, At The Fork Of The Creek
The Toogoodoo Creek forks into the Upper and Lower Toogodoo. This scene is at the bend where it goes to the Upper and is a popular fishing spot with the downed trees still along the shoreline. 5 x 7 on canvas mounted on panel, Framed DONATED

March 30, 2:00 PM, Oak Tree On The Bank
Today was not as bright blue as yesterday. It was overcast off and on with a rain shower and cooler. There are many oak trees that line the bank of The Toogoodoo Creek and in the surrounding area. Spanish moss just drip off the branches. 5 x 7 oil on paper mounted on panel Contact the artist for availabilty |
Aprl 3, Creek Reflections
Abstract springtime refelctions in the creek. Spring on the Toogoodoo Creek is full of color! There is lots of bright greens along with the old greens, pinks, reds, and purples. This is back to my older style of abstract painting. 5 x 7 oil on canvas panel, Unframed Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |
April 5, Easter Sunday, " Easter Eve, Full Moon Rising"
Painted from a photo on Easter Sunday of the night before, Easter Eve. This is a special studio painting! Ready to hang! 5 x 7 canvas panel, in 1" black frame (currently at one of the galleries, email me for availability) The eve before Easter, we were blessed with a full moon and few wispy clouds rising over the creek. The water shimmered and the rising moon was reflective on the day coming, Easter. Symbolic? Yes! I did use a speck of black but mostly a lot of burnt sienna and gold ochre, which is the old masters palette. |
April 6, Springtime On The Creek
April is lovely on the creek! The greens are new and bright and the azaleas are blooming and the wisteria and moss are just beautiful against the oak trees. One of my favorite times of the year! 5 x 7 oil on canvas panel, Unframed Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |
April 7, "Foggy Cloudy On The Creek"
Painted plein air from the porch. 8:30 AM The morning fog was light but the clouds were slightly heavy. The sun was rising and was peeking through the clouds. The spring greens on the trees and marsh were dulled in color by the fog and clouds. As soon as that lifted, the colors appeared again! 5 x 7 oil on canvas mounted on panel Contact the artist on availability |
April 9, "The Crab Guy"
The man goes out every day in the Toogoodoo Creek to set and pick up crab pots. Cold, hot, rain or shine, he is out there! THIS PAINTING WAS STOLEN FROM THE GALLERY ON CHURCH STREET. I WILL LEAVE THE PAYPAL BUTTON ON IN CASE THE PERSON WHO HAS IT WOULD LIKE TO PAY FOR IT. THANKS! |
Aril 15, "Rainy Day, Tax Day"
It was really a gloomy rainy day and yes, it is TAX DAY! Thankfully our was all done long ago. The distant trees and marsh and sky were all a grayed down color. Rain.... 5 x 7 oil on canvas mounted on panel Contact the artist for availability |
April 19, "Crab Pot Floater"
This crab pot has lost it’s owner! Occasionally one will drift or get drug down the creek by a passing boat. And sometimes we put them there… to catch crabs! This one appeared this morning and appears to be one that is missing an owner. The morning light and ripples as the current ran under it caught my attention. 5 x 7 oil on paper, mounted on panel |
April 20, Wind Across The Water
The wind is blowing ripples across the creek making some interesting but subtle patterns. The trees have some spring green but its a great contrast against the still browns and golds of the marsh grasses. 6 x 4 oil on canvas mounted on panel, Framed $175 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |
April 22, April Clouds
The clouds are big and billowy this morning and they tell a story that rains are coming. And they did later that day! 5 x 7 oil on linen panel, Unframed $75 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |
April 25, Toogoodoo Friends
There are many horses along side and close to the creek. This one was particularly friendly today as I walked by. The spring grass is a pretty bright green these days. I'm sure he is happy! We also have cows, dolphins, pelicans, wood storks, egrets and herons as our creek friends! 5 x 7 oil on linen panel, Unframed |
April 29, "April Showers"
It was rainy all day long. I painted this plein air from my window. Again, the field across the creek which fascinates me. I think it does because of hte variety of trees, greens and edges. The scene is gray and overcast and late in the afternoon. 5 x 7 oil on canvas panel Contact the artist |
May 2, Casting On The Sandbar
This fisherman stopped at the sandbar that shows itself at low tide just across the creek from our home. We frequently see fishermen casting for bait here before heading off for their special fishing spots. 5 x 7 oil on canvas panel, Unframed $75 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |
May 3, "Full Moon"
The evening was beautiful. We sat on the porch with our dinner and the moon rose with such a glorious orangy yellow color. It was a bit light out still but dark enough that the reflections were spectacular. Yes, our dinner got cold as we both ran for our cameras! 5 x 7 oil on canvas panel, Framed |
May 6, "Pefect Wind For Sailing"
5 x 7 canvas panel, framed in 3" gold frame This is a special studio painting! Ready to hang! Just a perfect wind for sailing a boat like this one! But no sailers today. I started to paint this from my dock but the wind was so strong that it was hard to paint while holding my pochade box and tripod with one hand. So I had to come in to finish. Would've been a fine sailing day though! For another version, see April 21 below. That is a more impressionistic version done with a palette knife. |
May 9, Ethereal Beauty
At 7 AM this morning, the sky was a bit gray and misty/foggy looking though it wasn't misting or foggy. There was an ethereal feel in the air. Light and airy. 5 x 7 oil on canvas Unframed $75 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |
May 11, Red Roof
It is a bright sunny day and May is finally bringng some warmer weather. There is a red roofed dock down the creek that catches my eye a lot. The distant tree line was so soft in color and I loved the reflections on this day. 8 x 10, Oil on linen panel Unframed, $75 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |
May 12, Red #102, At The Mouth Of The Toogoodoo
We came into the creek around noon today on our trawler, Summer Breeze. The wind had been gusty but it just stopped. Not a breath of air to be found! The clouds were wispy but still and the water was at slack, high tide. The mouth of the creek from Wadmalaw Sound (ICW) close to ICW red #102. 5 x 7 oil on canvas panel, Unframed $75 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |
May 13, "Red"
There are lots of crab pot floats on the creek and most of them are white but we came across this red one. The tide was pretty slack so it wasn't pulled too tight. And it was close to the marsh so the grass reflections were strong. Ready to hang! 5 x 7 oil on canvas panel, Framed |
May 25, A Day To Celebrate Love
This is the end of the Toogoodoo Creek as we cross over the little bridge on Hwy 174, just off of Roxbury Park. It was a "drive by" photo shot! Today is a day to celebrate love. It is our 43 wedding anniversary and we drove to have lunch at Edisto Beach with our dear friend and neigbor. His wife would've been 82 today. The love of his life. Today we celebrate love. 4 x 6 oil on panel |
June 2, "Hydrangea On The Creek Bank"
This hydrangea plant is on the bank of the creek and is really interesting because it can't decide if it wants to be a blue or pink. It has blooms that are both pink and blue and some that are purple. It's special. 4 x 6 oil on canvas panel |
June 8, The Rain Has Finally Stopped!
Painted plein air from my porch It has been raining seriously for the last 3-4 days, steady and hard! At about noon today, the rain stopped, the birds came out and the day was beautiful. Painted at 4:00 in the afternoon. 5 x 7 oil on panel, Unframed $75 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |
June 10, "Early Summer Sunrise"
The sunrise in June is light pinks and yellow under the canopy of the darkness leaving the sky and clouds. The summer greens are strong and vibrant and the all the colors reflect in the water. Lowcountry sunrise in the summer! 6 x 6 oil on linen panel |
June 12, "Old Friend 2"
Old trucks have always intrigued me. Don't know why? I don't like driving them..... I just like painting them! This is my second old truck to paint, the first being a watercolor many years ago now. Since I saw this one, delivered and not moved (very much or far) for a while now, I have been wanting to paint it. It is part of the Toogoodoo 365 Series because it can be found on a property on the banks of Toogoodoo Creek! Fair game... right? Old Friend 1 (click here to view) was fun and challenging, with the light filtering through the trees and the old glass on the truck. I waited for a day that I had time to paint this one with the same lighting. I love the old still shiny black with the faded black, rust spots, sun highlights.... and with the great sun we had on this day, it helped to make the "black" truck shine in a sea of green in the yard. 6 x 8 oil on panel |
June 15, "Toogoodoo Creek Rainbow"
Just after a light summer rain, came the beautiful and brighlty colored rainbow. The sky above it was still a purply gray while the sky below the rainbow, shimmered in the yellow light of the rainbow. 4 x 6 oil on linen panel, Framed in black, $95 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |
June 27, "Airstream On The Toogoodoo"
Just across and around the creek from us is this adorable Airstream trailer. Do you still have one of these? Every time we go by in the boat, I take a photo and say I'm going to paint it. So yesterday, I took the photo and here it is! Just adorable. I may need one of these! 5 x 7 oil on panel, Framed $195 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |
June 28, "Storm Rolling In Fast!"
I set up to paint the dock across the creek in low tide with the water coming into the marsh area. There were some dark clouds building fast and before I knew it, there was lightening and the scene changed from this to a complete wash out. Couldn't even see the dock! Then it stopped and was beautiful again but the creek had come into the marsh already. So I stuck to my original plan of painting the dark clouds and reflecting into the mud. 4 x 6 oil on canvas panel, Unframed $75 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |
July 3, Creekside Garden
The flowers are still blooming along the creek in this garden. There are different types of cone flowers and and a large hudrangea plant that still has bloom in pink and blue! 5 x 7 oil on panel, Unframed $75 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |
July 4, "Opals On The 4th Of July!"
Opals In The Sky! July 4! The clouds became very dark with a highlight of white and many opalesque colors glowing! It must have been a rainbow in that section of the clouds. The sky soon opened up into a torrential rain! 5 x 7 oil on linen panel, Framed $195 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |
July 9, Fisherman's Delight
Early morning and the sun was peeking through the dark clouds rimmed with yellow, pink, orange. The colors of the clouds reflected on the creek waters the fisherman made his turn back to the boat landing. 5 x 7 Oil on Canvas panel, Unframed $75 |
July 11, Creek Hummingbird
A little something different than Toogoodoo creek landscapes. These little hummingbirds are amazing. They fly up and down the creek visiting our neighbors and then come back here for more! Sometimes, they fly right up to our faces and I do believe that they are saying "thank you for my special treats"! Often there is a red throated one as well but Bruce didn't capture that image. 5 x 7 oil on canvas panel |
July 13, "Hazy Morning"
This morning, there was a cloudy haze across the creek, almost fog like but not quite. But wait, there's no smog out here, so yes, it was fog. By the time I set up to paint en plein air, it was almost 10 AM and most of the foggy haze was gone except for the way back of the field. The summer greens were starting to brighten up and the birds came out. 5 x 7 oil on canvas panel Unframed $75 |
July 15, "July Sunset"
On this night, we kayaked out into the marsh at high tide. It was a beautiful and peaceful time. The summer nights are still long and the tide was perfect. When we got back to the dock, the clouds were glowing in pinks, purples, yellow and the marsh grass was aglow as well. I ran in to grab my camera. Definitely a Toogoodoo 365 painting but also a special studio one. I have been struggling with a different painting and I was able to redeem myself with this one. Plus it was the first time I was able to use my new easel! 5 x 7 oil on panel, Framed |
July 20, "Bobby's Dock"
Today is a typical hot summer day in Charleston, though there was a great breeze on the dock! I sat out there and painted my neighbor' dock. I titled it Bobby's Dock though it's owned by 2 families. It was about noon and the sky was a light hazy blue and it was close to high tide. 5 x 7 oil on canvas |
July 22, Summer Storm
The summer storms come every afternoon right now. They come fast, rain hard, thunder and lightening and then it is beautiful afterwards. Today, the dark clouds hovered behind the tree line... must have been storming in Seabrook! Not a drop here! But the sun was starting to set and the afternoon sun glow was on the marsh. 4 x 6 oil on panel Unframed $75 |
July 24, Air Stream Stop
Another view of the air stream across the creek from us. We were able to get a bit closer with our small creek boat to snatch a photo for this one. I just love how all the colors reflect off the trailer. 5 x 7 oil on panel, Framed $195 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |
July 26, Toogoodoo Boat Ramp
The Toogoodoo Boat Ramp is always busy. Today there are 2 white trucks ready to drop their boats in. 5 x 7 oil on linen panel Unframed $75 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery |
August 2, Shrimper On The Creek
One of our neighbors had bought a shrimp boat and had it around for about a year or so. They did a lot of work on it, caught some great shrimp and then the boat was gone! I loved the reds and greens. I took this photo a couple of years ago but just now got around to painting it. 5 x 7 oil on panel, Unframed |
August 3, Summer Rains
The summer has been hot, hot and we are happy to have some good bouts of rainfall here and there. Seems that today was classical summer storms. The blue sky beyond the clouds peeked through and the distant trees were obscured by light rain while the marsh grasses are bright green. 5 x 7 oil on linen panel Unframed $75 |
August 4, 7:46 AM, Sunrise
Sunrise on the creek this morning. It was a bit hazy so the sunrise colors are a bit grayed and muted but the water was shimmering and the light shimmered through the tree leaves. 5 x 7 oil on linen panel, unframed $75 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery |
August 8, Sunrise Clouds
The clouds in August are just amazing no matter what time of day. This was early morning and the sun was rising behind some dark thunderheads about to burst. 5 x 7 oil on linen panel, Unframed Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |
August 10, Storming In Charleston
Looking out over the creek towards the city, I could see the big black clouds rolling in through the sunrise. The dark clouds made everything DARK but the sunrise glow was luminous in spite of it. We didn't get a drop of rain here but the city did! 5 x 7 oil on linen panel, unframed Plein air painting.... The sky was changing SO FAST that I took a photo and after a cup of coffee, I set up to paint the scene on the porch, still using the morning sky but also my photo of the intense clouds that had already changed a bit.
|
August 12, 6:34 AM
The dark clouds this morning were, well DARK! But the sunrise was peeping over the wall of dark gray creating beautiful reflections on the creek. 5 x 7 oil on linen panel, Framed $225 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery |
August 13, 7:18 AM

August 16, The Toogoodoo Bluff
The Toogoodoo Creek has a fork where it goes into the Lower or the Upper Toogoodoo. This area of the creek is on the Upper part where one side is a high bluff where erosion has really taken a toll. There are many huge trees that have fallen onto the bank or into the creek. The bluff has beautiful colors in the sand layers. 6 x 8 oil on panel Framed $195 |
August 18, Roxbury Park
Driving to Edisto Beach for a walk with my daughter and granddaughter, I snapped this photo as we pass by the end of the Toogoodoo Creek by Roxbury Park. The roof of the new pavilion was in view and it was high tide. 5 x 7 oil on linen panel Call or email the artist for availability |
August 19, Late Day August Low Tide
After 5 PM and the tide is out. The wet mud across the creek is starting to glow in purples and blues. There is a dock that sits in the mud at low tide. The trees are still dark green and the marsh grasses sitll have some pretty light greens as we have had some rain lately. 5 x 7 plein air oil on canvas, Unframed $75 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |
August 22, Sunrise After Totality
We spent the night on Summer Breeze on the day of the total eclipse. The next morning, the sky was just as mysterious as the day before. Totality was a beautiful experience. 8 x 10 oil on canvas, Framed $395 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |
August 29, Summer Reflections
Summer Reflections are full of greens even when the sky is gray from all the rains. We have had so much rain! This late afernoon, the gray sky had some interesting subtle colors peeking through the clouds. It was not only the green reflection that caught my attention but the sky colors. And I love that little peek a boo window the trees make that lets us see the trees in the distance! 5 x 7 oil on canvas panel Unframed $75 |
August 30, Socked In
It's a gray, rainy day in the lowcountry! The sky is gray and the dark summer greens of the trees are obscurred by the rain. The dock across the creek sits in low tide with the floating dock in the mud. You would think the marsh would fill up with all this rain! 4 x 6 oil on canvas panel Unframed $75 |
August 31, Summer Sunrise
painted from a photo I took at at 6:42 AM The sunrise this morning was vibrant yellow, red and purple and the creek water glowed with the same colors. I took this photo at 6:42 AM! I was not quite awake enough at that hour to actually paint so I took a photo and painted it later on in the day! 4 x 6 oil on canvas panel Unframed $75 |

September 6, Swinging In The Breeze
We are starting to realize that Hurricane Irma is going to hit Florida and most of the east coast, including us! While out in the yard, I saw our swing gently swinging under the oak tree in front of the creek. That is such a peaceful place. I hope that Irma doesn't disturb our peaceful place. 5 x 7 oil on linen panel, Unframed |
September 7, Calm Before The Storm
Today we took the Grady out of the water as we prepped for the storm. It was very peaceful there and the grass reflections in the water were awesome. Tomorrow is another day of prepping for the storm. We have to finish with Summer Breeze and the porch furniture and finally we will do the big door hurricane fabrics. 5 x 7 oil on linen panel, Unframed $75 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |
September 8, 40!
What a difference a day makes! And I hope it continues! Today, I'm a mother of a 40 year old! OMG! And it is such a calmer day than the last several. Hurricane Irma is a very big threat to Forida where Bryan, my sister and several friends live. But it has turned a bit westerly and SC and the eastern shore may be saved fom it. We went for a walk, I did gallery biz and I painted with a calmness that I didnt have the last 2 days! I painted on the dock in a nice early fallish breeze. 5 x 7 oil on canvas panel, Framed, $195 |
September 9, Cloudy and Calm Before The Storm Hurricane Irma is still going to affect us though it has turned westward. Better for us but not for those on the FL west coast. My family on the east coast are definitely feeling it right now but perhaps not as devastating as it could be. Hopefully. Here, the boats are ready, our house is mostly ready except for moving my car tomorrow in case the surge does come up our creek. Remember, we had several inches of water in our garage with Matthew last year! Here, it is a bit breezy off and on, cooler (nice!) and cloudy. At 5 this afternoon, I went out on the porch and captured the clouds. Loved the colors and wispiness of them! Tomorrow it shoud start raining here if forcast predicitons stick. I'm doing a 30 day challenge to paint 30 in 30 so it's helping with my T365 Series! 5 x 7 oil on linen panel, Framed $195 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery Click to set custom HTML

September 10, Watching And Waiting
Swinton Creek at high tide today. We are ready for the what is left of Hurrincane Irma to send us a bit of wind and it sounds like a lot of rain and some tidal surges. Boats are secured, car is on high ground, tools lifted on ground level, got food, wine, paints. Come on Irma! 5 x 7 oil on linen panel Unframed $75 |
September 11, Hurricane Irma
Irma hit SC coast on 9-11. After hitting the Carribean Islands, ALL of Florida, GA and SC, it still came with a fury. SC had a tide surge of 4-5' with winds clocked in the 70's. The Toogoodoo Creek actually had whitecaps in our back yard and entered the garage. But we are thankful that was the worst of it and the clean up was only 1 day in the yard, not as bad as H Matthew a year ago. 5 x 7 oil on linen panel Unframed $75 |
September 12, September Sunset
The sky just lights up in the fall and even though it is still summer in September, the sky is showing it's beautiful colors already. My friend, Anne took a photo for me from our dock since I didn't have my phone with me. The sky was awesome with pinks and light purples and the water was alive with the sky colors. Many of my small paintings are palette knife paintings on panels which is what this one is and I often use these smaller paintings as studies for larger brush or palette knife paintings. 5 x 7 oil |

September 25, September Moon
It's almost a full moon and it will be a Super Moon in a day or two! This was at about 6:35 PM and there was still a lot of light in the sky and a few fluffy clouds hovered below the moon. The marsh and trees are in their early fall deep greens still. But I think it will be changing soon! 5 x 7 oil on linen panel, Framed |

September 28, Morning
I was in awe of the morning view across and down the creek today. I actually forgot to take a photo but I stood there for several minutes, just taking in all the colors of the sky and marsh and reflections. I then went to my sketch book and wrote down what I saw, made a sketch taking special notes on where the light and shadows are. It was just another beautiful morning on the Toogoodoo Creek! 5 x 7 oil on canvas, Framed $195 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |
September 29, Just Before The Fork.
It is high tide and this spot is just before the fork in the creek. I love how the water is peeking through the marsh grasses and the distant tree lines are seen because of the curve in the creek. 5 x 7 oil on linen panel Framed $195 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery |

October 6, White Point
It was 1 in the afternoon when I snapped this photo from the boat as we entered the creek. The clouds were heavy and full. I can't remember if it rained after but it sure looks like it! This is one of my favorite spots to go by in the boat as we go in or out of the creek. 5 x 7 oil on linen panel All proceeds were for the St Paul's Exchange Club. |
October 8, Remnants of Matthew
October 8, 2017 was the day Hurricane Matthew came by us and filled our property with the overflowing creek. It was also my 63rd birthday! The storm eye actually came over land around Cape Romane (north of Charleston) but not after creating flooding and wind damage all along our coastline. This is about 3 PM as the storm was leaving our area with trailing cloud storms. 8 x 10 oil on canvas Framed $395 |
October 10, October Sunrise
Sunrise this morning was beautiful. The sky colors were yellow, pink, purple with a hint of blue trying to peak in and the creek reflected it all! We don't have the fall colors in the trees this year but it's in the sky! 5 x 7 oil on linen panel, Unframed |

This is a deep water creek but on the marsh side it does go dry at low tide. There is an average of 7-9 ft tidal range here which is a lot! As the water runs out, so do the fish and crabs and the oyster beds are high and dry buy only for a few hours. 5 x 7 oil on linen panel Unframed $75 |

October 31, Swinton Creek
Swinton Creek at high tide. As I cross over the low bridge, I love seeing the changes in the marsh with the tide changes and marsh grass colors. The sun is almost overhead but there is still a strong shadow crossing the marsh from the trees to the side. 5 x 7 oil on panel, Framed $195 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |
November 4, November Morning
It is about 10 - 11 AM and the sky is a light color and there aren't any clouds. It 's a pretty day, a bit cooler now and the grasses and trees are starting to look like fall. It's high tide and you can see the creek winding around the bend. 5 x 7 oil on linen panel, Framed |

November 11, Oyster Creek
It's early fall and I'm out fishing with Bruce on one of my favorite creeks. Oyster Creek. Not sure if that is the real name but that's what I call it because there are tons of oyster beds in the creek and there is an oyster farm towards the end of it. It was late afternoon and the sun was starting to go down. The fishing was slack so I pulled out the paints. Got a good start on it there but the gnats came out so had to put the finishing touches on the painting in my studio. For a photo of our catch of day, go to my blog. 5 x 7 plein air oil on canvas panel |
November 14, Shades of Gray
Today was a gray November day. Low lying gray clouds kept the sky covered all day. Late in the day, about 5 PM, when the sun was starting to fade away, the grays burst into different shades. Purpley gray high, pale, pale bluish gray low and the sunset casting a pale pinky gray color very low. Then the distant trees are also a hazy greenish purpley gray and the water is reflecting a them all into a steel gray. 5 x 7 oil on linen panel, Unframed $75 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |

November 29, All Good!
Today, I was a boat mechanic helper. We had to do some engine work on Summer Breeze where he needed some help. On my way to check the engine overboard water discarge, this is what I saw! A beautiful glowing sunset. The dark clouds were mixed with the glowing clouds. It was quite a beautiful sight. And a relief to know that the overboard discharge was good! I quickly photographed the scene and declared the ALL GOOD! 8 x 10 oil on canvas, framed $395 Available at Studio 151 Fine Art Gallery Call gallery 843-579-9725 or Email the gallery |
December 10, Warm December Day
The days have been very warm so far this December. Today the sky was blue and clear, not a cloud to be found. The marsh is starting to turn brown and gold which really shows up late in the afternoon but at mid day, it still looks green. The greens are darker and duller now with some browns in the trees. It is low tide now. This one is painted with a palette knife and is very abstract..y looking. Very different from some of the others. But you can still see the marsh grass, mud, water and field beyond the trees. 6 x 6 plein air oil on wood panel Unframed $75 |
December 12, December Greens
Another beautiful warm December day in S Carolina! This was about 4 pm in the afternoon, painted plein air. The marsh grasses are getting lighter, golden color. December 25, Lowcountry Christmas
A Lowcountry Christmas morning offering peace and goodwill to all. On this Christmas morning, the sunrise colors were magical. We had soft yellows, pinks, purples in the sky and in the water relections. The oak tree hanging over the creek really didn't have ornaments but it might now! 5 x 7 oil on canvas, Framing not required $75 |
December 31, New Year's Eve, 4 PM
Painted en plein air. It's still warm outside but it looks a bit cold and dreary. The rain is coming and it's been very humid! And winter is a few days away, we think. The grasses and trees are still green and the fields beyond the trees are a pretty green! 4 x 6 PleinAir oil on canvas panel Unframed $75 |
